The Adelaide Rowing Club is South Australia's premier rowing club. With over 150 actively participating members, it is also the largest rowing club in South Australia. Affectionately known as ARC, the Club caters for rowers from a wide range of ages from 15 up to 75 and over, at varying levels of intensity and competition. Formed in 1882 on the banks of the River Torrensas the I'Zingari Rowing Club, the Club has had a rich and colourful past over its 126 year life-span. The Club's current boatshed on the River Torrens is the third edition, after the first and second sheds were destroyed by flood in 1889 and fire in 1931 respectively. The Club operates from 2 facilities: the Torrens Lake boathouse and clubrooms, and a bay at the extensive South Australian Rowing Association (SARA) complex at West Lakes. ARC has an extensive fleet of some 26 rowing and sculling boats spread over both locations, including coxed eights through to single sculls, as well as caring for the Seymour College fleet. |

The Adelaide Rowing Club has had a fine start to its 2009-10 Rowing SA Premiership campaigns, with strong performances at the opening 2 regattas of the season.
The Henley on Torrens regatta was held on the 350m Kate Slatter sprint regatta course on Torrens Lake on Saturday 24th October. This regatta saw the Club pick up 6wins, including a clean sweep of all 4 1st Grade Men's events offered (1x, 4+, 4x+ & 8+). Other wins were seen in the 1st and 3rd Grade Women's Coxed Quads, and the 1st grade Women's Eight had a strong race to place 2nd.
The Scotch College regatta was contested at West Lakes on Saturday 31st of October, with the new regatta course being used for the first time for racing. Again, another very successful day for the Adelaide Rowing Club with wins in both the 1st and 2nd Grade Men's Eights, 2nd Grade Men's Scull, 3rd Grade Men's Coxed Four and 3rd Grade Women's Coxed Quad.
After these 2 regattas, the Club has a 4-way tie for the CAM West Shield between the defending co-winners Jarrad Schar and Tom Hodkinson, as well as Andrew Jackson and Max Tonkin. A further 19 ARC rowers have registered their first points for the season by being part of a winning crew. To date, the Club has won 8 points in the RowingSA Senior Men's Premiership, and 3 points in the Senior Women's Premiership.

Three ARC members were vital parts of the University of Adelaide crew that recently reclaimed the prestigious Oxford and Cambridge Challenge Cup at the Australian University Rowing Championships in Canberra in September.
Owen Girardi, Tom Shelton and coxswain Lucy Hyde were part of the crew that won the trophy for the Men's Eight event. The regatta was held on Lake Burley-Griffen over a shortened 1800m course and saw crews from all over Australia represent and compete for their respective universities.
The Oxford and Cambridge Challenge Cup was first raced for in 1893 and is valued in excess of $250,000. Adelaide University last won the event 30 years ago in 1979, and that crew too, included several Adelaide Rowing Club members.
Congratulations to Owen, Tom and Lucy, and to the other members of the successful crew.
