3 ARC Rowers Win Historic Trophy |
|
Three ARC members were vital parts of the University of Adelaide crew that recently reclaimed the prestigious Oxford and Cambridge Challenge Cup at the Australian University Rowing Championships in Canberra in September.
Owen Girardi, Tom Shelton and coxswain Lucy Hyde were part of the crew that won the trophy for the Men's Eight event. The regatta was held on Lake Burley-Griffen over a shortened 1800m course and saw crews from all over Australia represent and compete for their respective universities.
The Oxford and Cambridge Challenge Cup was first raced for in 1893 and is valued in excess of $250,000. Adelaide University last won the event 30 years ago in 1979, and that crew too, included several Adelaide Rowing Club members.
Congratulations to Owen, Tom and Lucy, and to the other members of the successful crew.
