Who can join Adelaide Rowing Club?

We cater for a wide range of ages and experience levels — from complete beginners through to competitive athletes, as well as those who simply want to stay active and connected to the rowing community.

Membership categories are designed to suit different levels of participation and involvement.

We have a minimum age limit of 13 years for participating in rowing activities, due to the physical strength & co-ordination needed to safely use and handle rowing equipment on and off the water.

What's included with ARC Membership?

Accepted Answer

Depending on your membership category, benefits may include:
 • Use of the Club's boats at one or both of our Boatsheds
 • Access to use our gym at the Torrens boatshed
 • Eligibility to race and represent our Club in competitions (subject to a competitive RowingSA registration)
 • Option for private rack hire to store your own boat (additional fees apply & subject to availability)
 • Invitation to Club events and social activities
 • Newsletters and communications
 • Being part of one of South Australia’s most established, inclusive and vibrant rowing communities

Question 3

Do I need rowing experience to join ARC?

Accepted Answer

No experience is required. If you’re new to rowing, we recommend our beginner-friendly  Learn to Row programme to help you get started safely and confidently before transitioning into regular club membership.

We also have Supporter and Social membership options for members who are happy to be involved without rowing or using our gym.

Question 4

Can I have a trial before committing to full membership?

Accepted Answer

Yes - absolutely.

• For experienced rowers, we allow short trial periods of up to 2 weeks to have a look and get a feel for our Club, the various squads and our set-up. Drop an email to membership@adelaiderowingclub.com.au (mailto:membership@adelaiderowingclub.com.au)to arrange this.
 • For those without rowing experience, our Learn to Row (/learntorow)programme is a great way to get into a boat and test the waters. We also run Come & Try days throughout the year.

Thursday nights are our social rowing evenings at the Torrens - you can drop in and have a chat with some of our members, and maybe even hop in a boat!

Question 5

When does the membership year run?

We operate on a fixed annual membership cycle, from 1 July to 30 June each year. This also aligns with the RowingSA registration cycle.

Question 6

Can I join part way through a season?

Accepted Answer

Definitely.

We offer pro-rata fee adjustments for new membership applications on a quarterly basis, based on the time of application.

Note that pro-rata adjustments don't apply for membership renewals, discounted or subsidised memberships (SASI, Yr 12 School Leaver), social memberships or RowingSA registrations.

Question 7

Do you offer Pay-As-You-Go membership plans?

Accepted Answer

No. We require full upfront payment at the time of application or renewal.

For Full Active membership only - we offer the option to split into half year payments ( 1 July - 31 December & 1 January - 30 June).

RowingSA registrations are also offered in either fully season or half season options.

Question 8

Are membership fees refundable in case I change my mind?

Accepted Answer

Generally not, except where required by law or stated within our policies.

We can not offer refunds on RowingSA registrations once processed in RowingManager. RowingSA registrations are transferrable if you change clubs.

Question 9

I just want use the ARC Gym at the Torrens - what category do I need?

Accepted Answer

We do not offer gym-only membership, and our Torrens Active membership is the best option for you.

Question 10

Do I need RowingSA registration?

Accepted Answer

If you plan to row on the water, use our gym, coach, or volunteer, then a RowingSA registration is required for insurance purposes. There are several options to suit your needs and circumstances and we can advise you on the most appropriate option.

Social & Supporter members are not required to be registered with RowingSA unless coaching or volunteering with ARC.

Registrations transfer with you from previous clubs or schools, so of you are already registered through a school or another club, then you won't need to re-register again until it runs out - provided that your existing registration is sufficient for what you are planning in terms of training, racing or coaching.

Question 11

Do you cater for Junior Members?

Yes - but with some conditions recognising the specific needs of children and young people under 18 years of age.

1. ARC is committed to providing a safe, supportive, and age‑appropriate environment for all junior participants. We have a Child Safe Environment Policy, and operate in accordance with the Rowing Australia National Integrity Framework, which covers safeguarding of children. 2. We have a minimum age limit of 13 years for participating in rowing activities, due to the physical strength & co-ordination needed to safely use and handle rowing equipment on and off the water.
3. Members under the age of 18 must be supervised by a responsible adult at all times while training or rowing by a responsible adult. We can only provide supervision for junior members during Club-organised training sessions & activities, and are not able to supervise independent training by junior members. 
4. Parents or guardians of members under 18 years of age remain responsible for 
5. Transporting their child to and from ARC activities
6. Ensuring their child comply with Club policies and coach instructions; and, 
7. Arranging supervision of their child when participating outside of ARC-organised training sessions and activities.

Question 12

When can I train and use the ARC facilities?

For the Torrens Boatshed and Gym, we provide eligible members with an electronic swipe fob so they can access the facilities at their leisure and use the boats whenever suits their schedule (Basically, you get 24/7 access with a fob!)

At West Lakes, eligible members are provided with an access code to our boatshed. Rowing is permitted on West Lakes per the RowingSA Safety & Training Policy:
 • 0600 - 2000 hrs Monday to Saturday
 • 0700 - 2000 hrs Sunday & Public Holidays

Within these times, squad training sessions constantly flex depending on a variety of factors. Get in touch and we'll put you in touch with a squad coach or member to answer your queries!

There are some limitations on which members can use which boats, depending on ability, size, skill and competition level. Occasionally, some equipment will be unavailable due to use at regattas, for Club programme or other events - this is by exception only.
