Intermediate Programme

The programme is designed for people aged 16 and over who have had an introduction to rowing and are ready to take the next step towards joining a club squad. It’s ideal for Learn to Row graduates, rowers returning after a long break, and anyone who would benefit from additional coaching and support before joining a regular squad.At this stage, we’re not yet able to accommodate rowers Under 16 within the Intermediate Programme. We hope to develop more opportunities for younger rowers as our Club grows.

Yes, a little. Participants should have completed a Learn to Row programme or have some basic rowing experience (but it doesn't have to be much!)If you're unsure whether the programme is the right fit for your experience level, please get in touch. We'd be happy to discuss your rowing background and help you find the best pathway into our Club.

Absolutely. The Intermediate Programme is designed for anyone who has had a basic introduction to rowing and is looking to build confidence, develop their skills, and transition into regular club rowing.Whether you completed a Learn to Row course at Adelaide Rowing Club or another club, you're welcome to join.

Perfect. The programme is also suitable for returning rowers looking to refresh their skills and rebuild confidence on the water.

Participants will experience a variety of boat classes, including sweep boats, sculling boats, and small boats, depending on weather conditions, numbers and progression. But you can expect to be exposed to a range of different boat types from a single scull through to an eight!!!

Your programme includes ten coached sessions, run from 7 to 9am on Sunday mornings at West Lakes. You can attend these on a flexible basis within a 6 month period, allowing you to fit rowing around work, family and other commitments.Only the sessions that you attend at West Lake s will count towards your 10-session plan. Participation in Thursday Night Socials at the Torrens is complimentary for the duration of your programme There's no need for make-up sessions - just come along to the sessions you can make. If you know that you're going to miss a week, just let us know and it doesn't count! Please note that no-shows & late withdrawals will be counted against your plan.

Once you sign up to the programme, you'll be invited to join our ARC WhatsApp Community. Each week, we'll run a poll about who will be attending, with the poll closing on Thursday evening. We'll make training plans based on the number of people who have said that they'll come out for that session.Note that if you withdraw from a session after the Thursday, or no-show to the session, that will count towards your session plan.

Safety is always our first priority. We'll always try to make an early decision based on the forecast. But sometimes, the forecast isn't always right.If a session can't go ahead for any reason, it won't be counted towards your 10-session plan.

We will run sessions most Sundays if weather permits. There will be a few dates which sessions won't be scheduled, but we'll communicate these well in advance - typically, Christmas & Easter.

Our hope is that most participants progress into Adelaide Rowing Club squads and become full club members. Our coaches will help you to identify the pathway that best suits your goals and interests.If you join as an ARC member, we will rebate 50% of the programme fee ($200) from your membership fees at the time of joining.

Absolutely. The programme is intended to help members transition into club rowing, and many participants become involved in club activities while completing their sessions.If you wish to sign up as a member early, you can see out your session plan as well as enjoy the other benefits of membership.

We recognise that everyone progresses at a different pace. In most cases, after ten coached sessions you’ll be ready to take the next step and join one of the Club’s regular squads.If you feel you would benefit from further support, we’re happy to discuss your individual circumstances and help identify the best pathway for you. However, the Intermediate Programme is intended as a transition into regular club rowing rather than an ongoing squad, so repeat enrolments are generally not offered. This ensures places remain available for new participants taking their next step into the Club.

No. Registration is for one individual participant, and sessions are non-transferable and cannot be shared with another person.Rowing is even better with good company, though, so we warmly encourage friends and family members to sign up for the programme and enjoy the experience together.

We encourage participants to complete all ten sessions to get the most from the programme. Sessions are valid for six months from the date of your first session.Any unused sessions remaining after this period will expire and are non-refundable & non-transferable. The expiry period is not extended by periods of non-attendance, holidays, injury, illness or change in personal circumstances.

No. The primary focus is developing the skills and confidence to row independently on the water, and to join other squads within the Club. You will be registered as a Social/Recreational rower with RowingSA for insurance coverage.To race at regattas, you will need to join the club as a Full Active member, and be registered with a competitive RowingSA registration. If this is something you aspire to do, we will help you every step of the way to reach that goal! (Note that the SA regatta season runs from October to May and there are plenty of opportunities to build your regatta experience through different grades of racing!)

Much the same as for Learn to Row sessions - comfortable exercise clothing (to the weather conditions), suitable footwear (thongs, croc's, scuffs), a hat, sunglasses and a water bottle.
