In This Issue:

President's TED Talk

I'll start with the great news overnight that 5 of ARC's finest have been selected in the 2026 Australian Rowing Team!

Congratulations to:

  • Alex Hill & Angus Dawson make up an all-ARC Men's Coxless Pair,

  • Ella Bramwell returns in the Women's Eight,

  • Oscar McGuinness selected in the Men's Double Scull, and

  • Sam Stunell will be racing at both Open and Under 23 categories in:

    • PR3 Mixed Double

    • Under 23 PR3 Men's Single Scull

Also worth noting the great efforts of Mitch Reinhard, Grace Barrera & Tamara Bates to be invited to race at the Selection Trials. It's tough at the top & we're 100% proud of you!

The local regatta season is drawing to a close with the final regatta being the Open Sprint & Master's State Champs on 2 May. This is the last chance to grab triple points in a very tight Women's Premiership, as well as for the various individual point-score awards. Entries close this Sunday, so get those crews organised. There is talk of a Club BBQ at the regatta, so let's make a day of it!

From there, attention will turn towards those going to Perth for 2026 Australian Master's Rowing Championships at the end of May, and our social rowers are making plans for a houseboat weekend to venture up to Renmark for the 36km Wharf to Woolshed Long Row on 20 June!

At the Torrens, members will see a new addition at the front of the shed, with our new battery having been installed this weekend just gone! Learn to Row and Thursday Night Social rowing are in full flight with strong numbers each week, and the gym is a constant scene of activity throughout each week.

In case you missed it, Claire Rogers and Mieka Webb have been appointed by the Committee to the shared role of Co-Captain, following Celia Cowan's resignation for overseas travel. My thanks to Celia for her leadership over the past 8 months - I greatly valued Celia's thoughts and approach towards many aspects of Club life - leading from the front, with integrity, diligence & compassion - and I wish her all the best for her adventures in Canada! My thanks also go to both Claire and Mieka for putting their hands up to lead our Club for the rest of the season. We are incredibly lucky to have such a great team of capable leaders who are willing to step up to keep our Club moving!

Let's keep getting after it ARC!

Mitch

P.S. Check out these shots of ARC in Action over the past month - thanks to Daren Potts & other contributing photographers for sharing them! If you have photos or videos to share, please send them through!

Thank You's

Thanks to some of our amazing volunteers & contributors for their efforts behind the scenes!

  • Erica Webb & Celia Cowan - Regatta volunteering

  • Zoe Tiffen, Ella McKay, Claire Rogers, Petra Musci - Learn to Row Coaching

  • Tom Merrigan, Adam Pope & Pete Davison - West Lakes Working Bee

  • Trent Collins - Torrens Battery

    • After our contracted installer bailed at late notice, Trent chased down another installer - not an easy task at the moment, given the rush to beat the May 1 deadline before the changes in the Federal Government's rebate scheme take effect - and the 42kWh battery was installed this weekend just gone!

      Hello energy efficiency.

Goodbye to $5,500/yr in electricity bills!

2026 SA Masters State Team Selections

Fantastic news that 5 ARC members were selected into the SA Master's State Team to contest the Interstate races at the Australian Master's Rowing Championships, to be held at Champion Lakes, WA, from 27 - 30 May.

Congratulations to :

  • Women's Eight - Mieka Webb, Jess Lobban (cox), Daren Potts (coach) & Bernard Le Riche (coach)

  • Men's Eight - Andrew Tidemann (reserve)

As results in recent years have shown coming, the standard of Master's rowing in South Australia is extremely high for both Men & Women, and selection in the SA team is highly competitive! No easy feat to make this team - Congratulations and good luck for the Championships!

Updates from The Committee

A couple of things that we are actively working on in the background:

  • FY27 Budget-Setting - the Club continues to experience its own cost-of-living challenges across all fronts, particularly in light of recent world events.

  • 2026-27 Membership Fees - members should expect a modest cost increase in fees next season, reflecting the

  • Torrens Lease Renewal & Market Rent Review

  • Insurance Market Review

  • Volunteering Policy

  • Growth Strategy & Execution - including Winter & LTR programmes & member recruitment opportunities

  • Early 2026-27 Regatta Planning - interstate events
